Our October 14th Den Meeting was very busy! We squeezed a lot into our hour and a half! We mostly focused on practicing our knot tying. We almost completed all of Achievement #22 (page 163)! A lot of them were a bit complicated, so we needed lots of Akela help. The boys have also started work on their own posters for Veteran's Day. They will be working on them a bit more at the next Den Meeting and then displaying them at the November Pack Meeting. I know that they won't finish them at this next meeting, so I'll be sending them home with them, so they can really take their time with them. The theme of the poster is: What Makes America Special? I'm hoping that they are going to be so nicely done that we'll be able to display them in the school for the week of Veteran's Day!
Wes showed all of the boys how to coil a rope and then they practiced throwing it and trying to hit a target. All of the scouts thoroughly enjoyed this. We'll definitely be practicing this some more!
Then we moved on to constructing our Marshmallow Guns. These were made out of PVC pike that Wes prepped and painted for me (thanks Wes!). Then the boys used them for target practice.
And, finally, we ended the meeting with having the boys make smoothies. They added whatever ingredients they wanted (yogurt, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, & juice) by scooping them into the blender and blending away!
